RISING TO THE CHALLENGE – WITH BOLD NEW GOALSThe Pediatric AIDS Fund, the primary focus of the Trust's work in Zimbabwe, includes several interrelated, collaborative projects that directly affect the lives of women, children and communities impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. From the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) to developing community-based preschools and resources for early childhood development, The J.F. Kapnek Trust is a leader in supporting families and communities in the fight against AIDS and its related challenges in Zimbabwe. Despite a huge deterioration in the economic and political situation in Zimbabwe in the past year, we have good news to report. Thanks to your support and the dedicated Zimbabwe based Kapnek Trust staff, we have managed to continue expanding services to over 80,000 pregnant women to thousands of children. In the coming year, we will begin to roll out an ambitious new program to further reduce the transmission of HIV from mother to child. At some sites, these services will begin to transition from the current single dose regimen to a combination medication regimen comparable to that which is used in developed countries. We also plan to continue to establish more preschools and to educate more orphans and vulnerable children through our school fee program. With the ongoing support of our partners such as UNICEF, The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Bernard Van Leer, Direct Relief, The Herz Foundation, House of Stone and the critical donations from individual donors such as you; we are proud to share what we have been able to accomplish together in the past year and our exciting plans for the year to come. Please read on. Click here to read our write up in the Contra Costa Times.
